Great webpage! Megan Jones and Rachel DeLisio told me about it so I had to check it out. Some friends I still talk to from OLSH are planning to get together in Pittsburgh to see one of your shows. I'm staying pretty busy with the new baby so I'm not sure when we'll be able to get out there. Hope to see you soon though. Good luck with your music career. Take care.

I’ve been chosen as a finalist in an essay contest about living with Multiple Sclerosis and in it I used (and fully cited later ), something from a song of yours and here's an excerpt:
"The day I got the diagnosis I was stunned. I learned that I'd been struggling since the age of 11 with a chronic disease that hadn’t even been considered let alone diagnosed until that day, nearly 8 years later. I was afraid of what the future could hold for someone like me, someone with MS. I started sliding deeper and deeper into the dark world of despair until one day my head filled with the words of a teacher I’d had. Words I'd heard a few years before sitting in his classroom as he strummed his guitar and sang for us. Words that I just could not get out of my head. “…when you’re young you can not know the struggles that can steal the soul from you…” (Breiding “Steeltown Blues”)
At first I thought they were in my head because he was wrong and I was proof. When you’re young you most certainly can know struggles that can steal your soul. I couldn’t shake that line from my head and was growing frustrated until one day it hit me. I was so preoccupied taking issue with the first few words of the line that I was missing the important part. There is one word at the end of the line that while small, is incredibly powerful. CAN. He hadn’t said that the struggles WOULD steal your soul; he’d said that they could. I suddenly realized that it's not about your age and it's not about the struggles. It's about how you face them. Do you let them take you down or do you stand up and say "No!" I’m now on my feet again moving forward with my life and every time someone asks me how I can continue to fight through my disabilities, I think of that song and smile. I tell them that there are struggles in this life that have the ability to steal your soul but they can only do that if you quit saying "no."
Thanks for everything - best wishes with your music career!
-Meg
