I met a Nashville singer/songwriter yesterday.
Pittsburgh native, Dusty Drake came to the Control Tower with his brother who is a controller here. He used to be in a local band called Silverado and his name then was Dino Buff.
I told him I don't really listen to country music. He said he was here promoting his new single "Say Yes" on Y108 and did an interview and played 3 songs acoustic. So I listened. I really like all the songs he played. He even gave me an autographed 8x10 glossy - he is very handsome and has that deep voice!
I think because alot of Tom's songs are country-ish, it's growing on me(slowly)!
Good luck to Tom and Bill in Nashville and Kentucky this week!
But Rock-N-Roll still rules!

Hey Tom,
Thanks for the update. Sounds like you've been getting your music out there and having a blast doing it. I imagine these road trips have been mighty inspirational, and I'll bet these experiences end up in a song or two down the road. Looking forward to your new CD, and hope to see you again soon.
Your friend and fan,
Dave Alianiello

Another Journal from the Road...
Hey Everyone,
I had a great week last week visiting Philadelphia and New Jersey.
On Sunday, May 6th what a thrill to do a radio spot on WXPN with Gene Shay, founder of the Philadelphia Folk Festival and "Dean of American Folk DJ's" at the World Cafe Studio. It was also good to see friends Karl Mullen and Kevin Madrishin there. I was invited in part to promo the Camp Jam in the Pines Festival in Hammonton, NJ where we performed this past weekend. We had a good set and were very well received by campers and fellow musicians alike. The entertainment there was top notch with great acoustic sets from Blue Roots and West Virginia's Staats and Shafer, a cool rock set from Robert Hazard(who, along with his band members helped us out with a bass rig and insisted that we do more shows together), and a late night unplugged set from Tony Trishka...when the lightning began they shut off the board and the crowd huddled together at the edge of the stage for bluegrass the way it was intended to be heard.
A special thanks to Lori Dean who set up the radio spot and the festival performance, and thanks to her and Steve for taking me to see Billy Hector, treating me to a great Mexican dinner and inviting me to stay at their place.

Hey Everyone,
I had another great weekend last week. I performed with five great songwriters and performers at the beautiful Riverspace Arts in a quaint little town of Nyack, NY, just 13 miles north of the George Washington Bridge. Thanks to Joe D'Urso and his family for inviting me to the show and sharing their home with me, as well as Lynn Crystal from WFDU who hosted the night. This is the same station that will air my interview with Ron Olesko to coincide with the release of The Unbroken Circle, my upcoming release. These folks have been extremely kind to give attention to an independent artist like myself. Google WFDU and visit their website.
On Saturday I drove to my hometown for a great night at River City. I did a set in the lounge before Joe Zelec and his band took the big stage and they were kind enough to share the stage with me after their first set. Joe sounded great and was more than gracious in welcoming me and it turns out that all the guys in the band are old friends of mine. My mom, dad and aunt came to the show as well as Jeff Strautmann who plays upright bass on my upcoming release, and my good friend Danny Decrease and his wife (Danny was with me when I met my wife 25 years ago!)to make it a special evening.
I hope all of you can make it to Moondogs on Friday for the Bill Toms show and then it's a great month for American Son with lots of gigs and travel.
Take care and I hope to see all of you soon.
Your friend,
Tom

Hey Folks,
I had a great time in Austin, TX with my friend Lorenzo Bertocchini. Austin is an incredible music town and we were busy each day. When we arrived on Tuesday we ate the first of several Mexican dinners and signed up to play an open mic at Ruda Maya. Great place, lots of great writers. Thanks to Ozzie for working us in and Hunter for his guitar when mine went south. Lorenzo and I went sight seeing for hours on Wednesday visiting record stores, vintage stores and cafes. Believe me, there is no place like Austin for boutique-type shops and stores. Wednesday night we had a scheduled performance with Sam Arnold, our host for the week. Will T. Massey and his girlfriend Valerie attended the show and after another great Mexican dinner, they were kind enough to invite us to their lovely home where we had a few beers, talked about the music biz, listened to some new music, and walked to the Continental Club for a midnight show by James McMurtry and his band...incredible night. On Thursday, Lorenzo and I spent the afternoon performing at Club Caffeine on Mary Street. The weather was beautiful and so were the folks we met there. My visit ended on a great note when Sam arranged for Lorenzo and me to participate in a song swap with two great artists, Suzanna Choffell and David Lutes at a really nice venue called Flipnotics.
All in all, it was a fantastic week, especially since it was so quickly arranged. Thanks so much to Sam for putting us up and showing us around, Steph and Emily for great company, Will and Valerie for your hospitality and insight, Susan and the folks at Club Caffeine for being so open minded, and Suzanna and David for being so gracious to add us to the bill at Flipnotics.
Last but foremost, thanks to Lorenzo for inviting me to Austin with him, for bringing joy to my family as a gracious guest and for being a great companion for the last few weeks. I look forward to seeing him again soon.
Take Care,
Tom

3/31/07 Cleveland, OH @ the Barking Spider Tavern. Tom generously opened the show for Lorenzo Bertocchini and Bill Toms with an hour-long set of heart-felt, original-old and brand new- songs:
Gary's '55
Picture of Him
The Breaker (new song)
Union Miner (new song)
Daddy's Old Black Hearse
Manifold Road
My Old Man and Me
Ain't No Quittin' Side of Me
Night Shift Blues (?)
Float Me On Down the River
Saving Grace
This Town (accompanied on the piano by a patron)
He also joined Bill and Lorenzo for the finale of Bill's set. Tom's vocals and musicianship were right on all evening, whether performing his own songs or accompanying his friend Bill or Lorenzo on their songs. And his new songs sounded great. Can't wait till the new CD is released! Tom, always a pleasure listening to you. Thanks for sharing your heart and soul with us...
