Hey Folks,
Thanks to everyone for making The AmeriSon Ballroom Folk Series at Cefalo's a great success! What a thrill it was to host the incredible Rosie Flores and the Rivetors. Their show was fantastic and they all were such gracious guests here at the Breiding house. It was a thrill for me to play songs from The Unbroken Circle with Chris Scruggs (BR549 and Earl's grandson) in our sitting room before lights out. We wish Rosie the best on the remainder of her tour while her broken arm heals. I hope all of you can make it to the Ronny Cox and Jack Williams show in September. Ronny is a highly respected folk artist, songwriter, and acclaimed Hollywood actor. Once again, special thanks to the Cefalo family for providing such a beautiful venue for my grass-roots folk series, and thanks to Rege Behe of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review for his wonderful stories on both Rosie and the Series.
My two year tenure on the Commonwealth Speaker Series at The Pennsylvania Humanities Council began in January. The shows so far have been very rewarding. I have begun a journal and I am posting the entries on this site's guestbook. I hope you will visit and leave any questions or comments for me there. My program Steeltown, Coalfields and The Unbroken Circle has been selected for a television program to air in 2011 on Pennsylvania Public Television throughout the state. The host site for filming is the local non-profit organization Rivers of Steel and the taping date for this segment of Humanities on the Road will be announced soon. Thanks to the folks at Rivers of Steel for helping to make this happen.
Thanks again, also, to Jim Robinson for continuing to host Songwriter Saturdays at the Leaf and Bean in Pittsburgh's Strip District. His "coolest place in the Strip" truly is that - and he has the best coffee in Pittsburgh, roasted right on site. Stop by on a Saturday afternoon to hear new material, enjoy a fine cigar, and have a great cup of coffee.
Speaking of new material, I am now finishing up tracks for the anticipated release to follow The Unbroken Circle. It will be completed and packaged before year's end. Beauty in Paradise is yet another departure into different creative avenues for me, and the work has taken shape with the help of B.C. Taylor on drums, Dave Pellow on Bass and yet another collaborative effort with my good friend and long-time producer, Jamie Peck.
Last, but most importantly, I want to thank each and every one of you for all your love, kindness, and support throughout the years.
You know it's always time to roll....see you at the next show...wherever that may be...
Tom

About.com Folk Guide (New York Times Company) by Kim Ruehl
The Unbroken Circle receives 5 out of 5 stars.
"Breiding is a fantastic songwriter, and an even more gifted performer...This album doesn't just serve as a remarkable tribute to the history and labor issues, it also does an exquisite job of telling the people's history of the West Virginia coalfields."
"There have been numerous collections released through the years of songs and recordings paying tribute to, and telling the stories of coal miners, their families, and their work. This collection features a couple of traditional songs about coal mining, but mostly Breiding did a great job writing his own collection..."

Tim O'Brien, Grammy Award Winning Singer-Songwriter:
Tom Breiding's bluegrass flavored CD "The Unbroken Circle" provides a much needed look at the story of the West Virginia Coalfields. Like the best historical fiction, these true stories in song provide easy access to a culture whose trials and tribulations are too often ignored.
Tom T. Hall, "The Storyteller," Country Music Legend:
Shades of Woody Guthrie - These recordings contribute to the historical understanding of this much misunderstood region.
Ron Olesko, Producer/Host WFDU's Traditions:
Tom Breiding serves up a slice of America's heart and soul on his latest project "The Unbroken Circle." Tom is a gifted storyteller who has crafted a monumental set of songs, each one a singular epic that fits together to tell an important story. This is one CD that will stick with you.

Tom Breiding, Rick Malis, Calliope School graduates, and guest artists release "When We Shine: 15 Songs About Pittsburgh"
A Calliope Songwriting Project funded by an Allegheny Regional Asset District Renaissance Grant celebrating Pittsburgh's 250th Anniversary
When we shine in this city, we really do shine - whether it’s helping our country to win a war with manpower and steel, inventing the airbrake, curing polio or winning a sports championship. When the chips are down, this city always seems to rise to the challenge and brings out the best qualities that make Pittsburghers a unique, hardworking, humble, passionate, brilliant and compassionate people.
This striking Clyde Hare cover photo shot in 1952 seems to be an apt portrait of a city that turns 250 years old this year. In the foreground we can still see and embrace the artifacts of our mighty industrial past. In the horizon we see a glimpse of our city today and in the shining sky the promise of our future.

It is my first commercial production venture, my first record recorded entirely with one band (all great players and old friends, by the way), and the first record I have released with a real opportunity to support with live shows...and do we ever have some live shows lined up. Get on board...Time to Roll!"
